I learned this recipe from my grandmother, who’s been making it for years. This one tastes even better than store bought candy and gets ready in no time. So let’s check out-
Ingredients
- Half ounce nonfat dried milk
- 1 ¼ cup confectioner’s sugar
- ½ cup granulated sugar
- ¼ tsp salt
- ⅓ cup light corn syrup
- 2 ½ tbsp water
- 2 tbsp unsalted butter
- ½ tsp vanilla extract
- 2 to 3 drops of yellow and orange food color.
Method
- In a food processor, mix confectioner’s sugar, salt, and dry milk. The mixture should be smooth and well combined.
- In a separate bowl, mix corn syrup, granulated sugar, and water and cook these for about 4 minutes on medium heat.
- Now add butter into it.
- The mixture should reach a temperature of 230°F. You can check it using a candy thermometer. Once it reaches the desired temperature, take off from the heat.
- Now add the salt, sugar, and dry milk mixture into it. Add vanilla extracts as well and mix well using a wooden spatula.
- Pour the mixture into parchment paper and let it cool for 10 to 15 minutes.
- Separate the mixture into three equal parts. Add yellow and orange food colors into two of them.
- Roll out the dough into long strands and cut them into pieces ½ inch thick and 22 inches long.
- Lay all the orange, yellow and white pieces side by side and press them together using a ruler.
- Now using a knife, cut them into individual pieces and let them dry for about an hour. Ensure the candies have a triangular shape to resemble the actual candy corn.
